We are creating a pre-formed caucus of candidates to run as a slate for Congress in 2018 to save our democracy and show that progressive policy is politically feasible if we have bold leaders who aren’t afraid to fight for it and win.
Justice Democrats are selfless leaders from all walks of life, areas of our economy and society, representing every community. We want a Congress that looks like America and shares the experiences of everyday Americans. There isn’t one metric or policy checkbox we are using to endorse candidates, but instead using this form to start a conversation. We will base endorsements off of responses to the questions we ask in this form and the series of conversations over phone and video chat that could follow pending application review. Please be aware that due to the high volume of applications, we won't be able to get back to everyone regarding status or rejection.
Candidates will be evaluated throughout this process on a combination of variables, including:
Policy and Values: How aligned is the candidate with Justice Democrats platform and values?
Viability: Historical voting data, specifically voter turnout, previous election party breakdown, and demographic breakdown of district or state are some of the indicators we use to asses possible election outcomes. This can give us a basic idea of how much effort a campaign/candidate will need to invest if they want to win.
Origin of campaign contributions: Does the candidate accept corporate PAC or lobbyist money? Does the candidate have the ability to raise money to fund basics of campaign?
